Independents/small fleets, have you ever hauled a truly money-losing load?
*
Yes, often
Yes, but only rarely
Yes, once or twice in my career
Yes, but only found out it was a loser after detention/other delay/incident
No
I'm not sure

When/if you've willingly taken a loss on a load, why'd you make that decision?
*
It beats sitting
To get home
To reposition in a better area for demand
Trying to do a broker/shipper a favor for future opportunities
Underestimated my true costs
More than one of the above
I've never willingly run an unprofitable load

What's your impression/opinion of any-size carrier that routinely hauls at the edge of (or below) profitability?
They're in hard times, just trying to survive without losing everything
Many might seem to be unprofitable, yet with a hyper-efficient operation (and/or equipment paid-for) lower rates can work
Cut-rate operations ought not to be in business, and probably won't be for long
They're clueless about costs and bound to exit soon
